Special Technical Communities

Building global, interactive communities around important and emerging technical areas

The Society's specialty institutes provide members with access to technical, educational, and professional resources in specialty areas.

The IEEE Computer Society Special Technical Communities (STCs) provide members with access to online communities of computing professionals who share a common technical, geographic, career, or other interest. The STC's provide members with access to technical, educaional, and professional ressources in speciality areas. IEEE Computer Society membership is not required for participation.

Why participate?

Help drive new technologies with experts in the field and join effective communities that create knowledge.

Specific topics of interest also include high performance smart computing, smart digital forensics, smart big data security, smart social engineering, smart communications, smart embedded systems and sensor networks, smart cloud computing, smart heterogeneous systems, and smart security mechanisms.   more...

Autonomous Driving Technologies

Autonomous Driving Technologies is an open online community and forum striving to explore innovative solutions to open problems in the area of autonomous driving. The STC serves those who have an interest in autonomous driving which involves the integration from different technology areas including intelligent sensors, machine perception, machine localization, planning and control, operating systems, high performance embedded systems, as well as cloud computing. more...

Blockchain

The IEEE Computer Society Blockchain Special Technical Community is a new worldwide Open Community on Blockchain within IEEE. Blockchain based technologies have recently emerged into the mainstream, demonstrating the advantages of decentralization, disintermediation, anonymity and censorship resistance, especially in relation with the financial sector. Blockchain technologies, through recent development, have not only enabled simple transactions, but also complex computation on a network. These advances are now not just limited to the financial sector, but also new internet applications can harness these building blocks to empower users to take control of their online footprint, such as in healthcare, social media and other digital services. The community shall become the gathering place for academic researchers, practitioners and business innovators alike, where they may meet and work together to embrace, promote and enhance blockchain technologies and their applications. more...

Broadening Participation

Broadening Participation is an IEEE organization working to broaden participation in the computing sciences. We provide a social platform to enable like-minded people to discuss and promote topics and ideas about BP.   more...

Big Data

Big Data serves as a forum where researchers, vendors, providers and users exchange ideas on past experience, requirements, needs and visions for promoting data science and interdisciplinary collaboration between fields.

Dew Computing

The IEEE Computer Society Dew Computing Special Technical Community is a new worldwide Open Community on Dew Computing within IEEE. Dew Computing is an emerging research/application area that is the complementary piece of cloud computing. The goal of dew computing is to fully realize the potentials of on-premises computers and cloud services. The vision of the Dew Computing Special Technical Community is that its efforts shall facilitate dew-computing research and dew computing application, for the benefit of all users and providers of the future global cloud dew-computing environment. Visit our website and learn more.

Cybersecurity

The Cybersecurity STC aims to become the voice of the cybersecurity field, allowing the Computer Society to speak authoritatively on the subject and become a one-stop source of reliable information for stakeholders such as government, educators, industry at large and the general public.   more...

Education

Education is a community of those interested in all forms of educational research and pedagogy in the field of computing. The network supports active and experienced researchers, as well as those interested in developing expertise in the area. Its primary aim is to develop good practice in learning and teaching activities, and inform educational strategy and policy in computing, through a wide variety of models ranging from action research to purely theoretical works.   more...

E-Government

The IEEE Computer Society e-Government Special Technical Community (e-Gov STC) is a new worldwide and transversal Open Community on e-Government within IEEE. e-Government is the "brand label" for a multidisciplinary domain, related to the use of ICT in the context of public policy (e-Governance, Open Government, Smart Governance, etc.), operations in public organizations (transformation, management, interoperability, security), citizen engagement (e-Participation, transparency, e-Democracy) or government services (including using social media). Numerous disciplines contribute to this intersection of areas such as computer science, information systems, information science, management, sociology or political sciences, among others   more...

Multicore

The IEEE Computer Society Special Technical Community on MultiCore (STCMC) aims at promoting research, development, education, and standard activities related to multicore and manycore technologies by providing places for discussion to communities from academia, industry, and government. Activities will include leader summits, international conferences, workshops, online lectures, online magazines and transactions, and working with standard committees.   more...

Operating Systems

The Special Technical Community on Operating Systems (STCOS) encourages research, application of novel engineering methods, dissemination of knowledge, and advancement of education in the areas related to Operating Systems and complex software systems in general. Sustainable Computing

Sustainable Computing takes a holistic view of information technology (IT). Any domain that uses or could potentially benefit from using IT is relevant to Sustainable Computing.

The two primary goals of the Sustainbablecomputing STC are:

Systems Engineering

Systems Engineering is designed  to advance the principles and practices of systems engineering as applied to development and sustainment of computer-based and software-intensive systems. The Committee seeks to identify and develop products and services that will be of benefit to members of the Computer Society and that will attract new members.

The purpose of the Committee is to serve as a focal point for technical and managerial issues in systems engineering that are common across the Computer Society boards and committees, and to provide liaison to other elements of IEEE and external organizations.  The purpose is NOT to usurp the ongoing and future work of existing Computer Society boards and committees.   more...

Wearable and Ubiquitous Technologies

We are in the process of creating the social network group to facilitate the process of joining the STC on Wearable and Ubiquitous Technologies. We will provide the links and content soon.   more...

Parallel Modeland Systems Flow

Since the mid 2000s, with the advent of multicore architectures, parallel computer and systems have witnessed a remarkable comeback from the downturn of hte early 90s.
