Abstract
The interactive Real Time Physically Exact Simulation of the Beam of Car Headlights is presented. Techniques to ensure physical exactness are presented. Interactivity is found to be critical to the optical engineer to be able to assess reliably the quality of the headlights. The Application has been 1/ validated by Valeo's Expert Optical Scientist, by showing the simulated beam next to the real headlight, and 2/ qualified in a blind test where optical engineers were asked to evaluate the headlight in a live test for one group and on the simulator for another. The answers to the evaluation questionnaires, used by Valeo for headlight evaluation, were found to be identical in both groups. Return on Investment is assessed.
