Abstract

This paper posits that the design and implementation formalization of organizational decision support systems (ODSSs) is more formalized than other types of decision support systems. By examining the process of information sharing as a cultural phenomenon, the paper demonstrates that the type of decision support system is related to two dimensions of culture, space-codification and diffusion. Since codification is directly related to formalization, the model suggests that ODSSs require greater formalization than either group decision support systems (GDSSs) or individual decision support systems (DSSs).
