Abstract

The SearchMap algorithm was developed to help mineral explorationists integrate personal experience and intuition into maps. It employs a filter with a radial interest function to sample various data types, and each pixel in the SearchMap is the sum of values calculated from individual layers, weighted by the importance of each layer in the mind of the user. Users adjust search distances and weights iteratively until they are comfortable with the result. In an example, data for geology, topography, lineaments, silver, and arsenic are used to explore for concealed gold deposits in a 12,000 sq km region of northern Nevada.
