Abstract
An online community becomes practicable by the development of the information technology these days, and it is possible to consider as a substantial community. In this paper, the society function is substituted by using the online community support technology, and the possibility of enhancements in efficiency improvement and the research function of management are examined. Academic Society which researchers organize for specific interests is considered to be a "Community". Recently, one scholar needs to belong to two or more academic societies at the same time. This is because subdivision and interdisciplinary have been progressed simultaneously. Moreover, the number of them are increasing these days. Of course, the cost to manage the academic society are going to rise, and a lot of scholars to spared the resource to the management of the academic society. It is thought that the function that "Academic society" has in using can be substituted by technologies which Online Community Supporting tool provides. This will change the management of academic societies drastically. The progress of the technology in recent years gives the change to various fields. The technology for the online community construction is the one. More efficient community management becomes possible by using various applications supported by the Internet technology. For instance, to construct the community on the net, the community portal software that is the tool for the online community construction has functions of news, the billboard, E-mail, the event management, and the member management, etc. (Xoops, for example). The community of a lot of free software developments is actually generated, these tools are used, and it develops in the field of the software development while doing communications (Linux, for example). The use of the mailing list is becoming a general method as mutual communication tool in the group (mailman, for example), and it is used widely as the contact method between members and a means of the argument. Also, groupware can be used to manage various resources of certain organization such as a company and an academic society, the number of company is increasing using groupware, (As one example of groupware, CyBose), too. The constraint which academic societies have could be overcome by using the Internet Technologies developed in these days. The "Academic society" that is proposed in this paper would have a role and a function quite different from a past academic society. It aims to provide the effect by especially making researcher's data gathering, research result opening to the public, and research assessment function, etc. online. Moreover, it is thought that the possibility of the collaboration of a difficult up to now researcher is opened by this research. After having first examined the function of a past academic society by section 2, section 3 investigates the situation of making to IT over the academic society recently in this thesis. The method that substitutes an individual function by the internet technology is examined according to the function classification of section 2 in section 4. Finally, section 5 explains the view in the finding and the future obtained as a conclusion with this paper. Seeds for further researches obtained from this research are mentioned so that the online systematization of the academic society may have a big influence on the research methodology.
