Abstract
This paper describes the design and development of a distributed interactive digital video archive for an online news service. Several typical usage scenarios for the system are summarized and a flexible, scalable distributed architecture which supports these requirements is presented. The design of the video and news archive clients are then described, and an example illustrates how the clients can be used to archive video content. Finally the architecture of our broadband network testbed is outlined, together with the protocols currently in use, and the plans for further developments are presented.
