Abstract

The paper presents a methodology for designing dynamic reconfigurable systems that optimally overlaps execution and reconfiguration so as to maximize performance. Partitioning and dynamic reconfiguration scheduling approaches are proposed. Practical issues, including the need for limiting the number of different configuration that ought to be dynamically placed and routed in the FPGA, as well as the difficulty in accurately estimating the area requirements of candidate solutions, are taken into consideration in the approach.
