| Abstract |

A median correlation for the estimation of
corresponding points in stereovision is proposed. It is
based on the normalised correlation coefficient using
the median instead of the mean. Its performance
appears to be superior than conventional correlation
specially in depth discontinuities image areas. This
conclusion is derived from an empirical evaluation in
which the proposed correlation is compared with the
normalised correlation coefficient and the sum of
absolute difference. The results show that the median
correlation produces higher scores and lower
estimation errors.
