P3P provides a standard way for Web sites to convey their privacy policies in a computer-readable format. The article describes the motivations behind P3P and how it works. In addition, it includes an overview of P3P-related software, discusses P3P adoption, and describes future P3P standardization efforts. Finally, the article discusses critics' views of P3P and discusses the standards' potential impacts.
